Another Vaughn

So it was finally Julie's turn to get a cake of her own. I knew she wouldn't order one from me, but I also knew her sweet kiddies would make a cake for her too. So I made a cute little individual cake just for her. It was chocolate cake, with chocolate, mocha, espresso buttercream between the layers and iced all in chocolate buttercream. Julie is a self-proclaimed choco-haulic ;)

Julie got to enjoy this all for herself, she said, because no one else likes coffee. So it was the perfect cake for a great friend, to have a great birthday! I do have to say though, the cake Maddie, Luke and Lauren made was so adorable. Maddie was so proud to show me that she wrote on it!! But I'm glad the kiddies and George had a cake to enjoy as well! Hope you had a great birthday Julie! Love you!

Congrats Grad!

My Godmother, my aunt Tina, accomplished one of the greatest things last weekend...she got her college degree!! I'm so proud of her and happy for her! She's worked so so hard for this the past two years, and she finished strong with her Bachelor's degree. My cousin Greg, her son, was sweet enough to plan a surprise party for her with the help of his brothers and uncle Dean. From what I hear, they did a wonderful job!

Congratulations again Aunt Tina! We are all so proud of you!
Love, Sarah

Sweet 16!

My Parents have been friends with Tony and Lisa since High School, and my parents are their daughter Haley's Godparents.
Haley's 16th birthday is this week! AH! She's getting so old! I remember when my sister and I and Michelle (who is Krista's age) would all be playing, and we always felt Haley was so much younger. Now she's a sophomore and turning a beautiful 16!! Lisa had a surprise party for her, which she said Haley might be expecting. When she picked up the cake, she said that she might have figured everything else out, but the cake will be a total surprise regardless. Yay! I hope you were surprised Haley! Happy birthday girlfriend!

1st Communion #2!

Another blog frequenter, my Vaughn family. This weekend was Maddie girl's first communion. When I sent Julie some pictures of possible cake designs, she said this one was Maddie's pick and to surprise her with a purple or pink. Maddie's room, back pack, flip flops, are all pink, so of course, I chose pink!

Here's Maddie and me at her party. She picked her dress after MUCH deliberation between her, Julie, aunt Bethy, Daddy, me, Luke, everybody! ;) She looked beautiful!!

For her cake, I did vanilla cake on the bottom layers and chocolate on the top, all with vanilla buttercream. I decorated it with fondant, and ventured into the realm of candy molds. I used this first communion mold, filled it with white chocolate, and stuck it in the top of the cake for a cute topper! The plastic ones at the store were just not cuttin' it for me, and I'm glad I did this chocolate one.

Congratulations Maddie Girl! Love you!

Miami Graduation

My former teacher, Mrs. Skeens, who ordered the cute basket Easter cake, also ordered this one for her oldest son. He graduated from Miami University Oxford this weekend. Just a simple cake, but with the Miami "M" logo.
TIP:: when you use red dye, make sure it's NO TASTE RED!!! :)

Congrats guys!!

Saints Helping Saints

Alums from my high school, about 8-10 years ahead of me, began an organization called Saints Helping Saints. Their main goal is staying "dedicated to living the spirit of Elizabeth Ann Seton through the support of each other and our community." This non-profit organization is absolutely WONDERFUL. They help Seton Alums, and their families, who are in need in anyway, often due to serious illness or other such hardships. It is all about giving back and helping the other Saints in our community.

This past weekend, SHS hosted a fundraising event called Sipping With Saints. It was an art auction and wine tasting, with proceeds going to two particular families and the general SHS organization to continue helping families. I was honored when Raven, one of the assisting founders, asked me to donate two cakes for the event. I was more than happy to do so for such a fabulous organization.

The first cake includes the Saints Helping Saints logo
And this one a wine bottle (obviously ;)) in honor of the wine tasting

Hopefully next year when I am 21, I can be a part of the SWS evening!
Please visit their website to see what these ladies are all about! www.mysaintshelpingsaints.org

Also, please keep all the families this organization is helping in your prayers.

Thanks, Raven for letting me be a part of the event and a great organization!

It's First Communion Season

For those who don't know, I am also a dance coach. This first communion cake was for one of my second graders, Miss Kayleigh and her cousin, Shayne. Kayleigh is such a sweetie. When she came to my house to pick it up with her mom, I could tell she was so excited about being at my house and getting HER custom cake. Her smile was priceless! Their party was this weekend, but they don't make their first communions until next weekend. God bless both of them on their special day! :)

I also had some extra batter, so I made these sweet little cupcakes with royal icing flowers (flowers-don't be deceived...those were pre-made. I haven't mastered them yet!!)
